"It's a stupid trick of fortune, anyway" -

A quick note on this blog's (barely legible - sorry!) title: yes it is a pun, and yes it is taken from a travel book of sorts from one of the finer living writers of the English language, John Banville. I feel it would be good to mention a quote from it, one that I had initially marked off for inclusion in the many essays I needed to write on this topic in the past few months.

"The question I am addressing is the one that historian, tourist and essayist alike must grapple with: how and where to locate the 'real' Prague, if, indeed, such a singular thing may be said to exist."

I have always been fond of this idea of multiple identities, that a place is as informed by our movement through it as we are informed by a place's pull on us. This is a thing to think about, then, especially when it is my intent to fulfill all of the aforementioned roles. That and to drink lots of beersies and take lots of picsies, of course.

Thesis

In this blog, I will prove that I am having fun on the Continent via pictures, anecdotes, and other ephemera. It will all be very exciting for you, the reader, in the way that other blogs I have owned and operated in the past have perhaps not been. Please join me (you know, electronically) for this endeavor beginning in January, 2008.
